Reclaiming Me Time

Finishing my Ed.D. has freed up a lot of time. During the past three years, I spent a lot of my unscheduled time studying, researching, and working on my dissertation. All that work has paid off with a successful defense, my first manuscript submitted for publication, and all coursework completed. The time is perfect for pausing, reflecting, and working on postponed projects. Closing a cycle is always exciting and scary.

Finishing a degree during a pandemic is interesting. I find myself pondering on the next steps, reflecting on the past, and trying to enjoy free time. First of all, I am trying to reclaim time to do things I enjoy, such as cooking, reading, and nature. Spending time with my son and husband is also a priority. My son, like me, finished school during the pandemic and is considering his next move. My husband, on the other hand, patiently sat in silence many nights and weekends while I completed schoolwork.

Keeping an updated blog has been on my to-do list for a long time. I have started and stopped on several occasions, but mostly because my schoolwork consumed my time. I want to reclaim this space to post my reflections and discoveries. At the same time, I want to embark on a journey of disciplined and consistent writing. My work as an educator is filled with opportunities for reflection and growth. Learning is a journey that never stops as I am always looking into new (and old things). My most important mission, however, is the personal one. This is a path that doesn’t stop, and will always be nurtured by those around me.
